Starting in 1993, with Haikou as its main base, the company has set up seven flight operational bases in Beijing, Xi’an, Taiyuan, Urumqi, Guangzhou, and Dalian. With a flight network spreading all over China, covering Asia , Europe, the Americas, Oceania and Africa, Hainan Airlines has opened up almost 500 domestic and international flight routes, reaching almost 90 destinations. Since its initial operation and a safe record of operation for over 20 years, accumulating over 3.549 million hours of safe flying, Hainan Airlines has maintained an excellent safety record.

Hainan Airlines’ fleet is composed of Boeing 737, 767 and 787 series aircraft and the Airbus 330. The young and well-appointed fleet forms a reliable solution for the transportation of both passengers and cargo, All aircraft interiors feature a high quality premium class (first class cabin and/or an all new spacious and comfortable business-class cabin) with plenty of personal space for passengers. In 2015, a total of more than 142 aircraft are in operation, with the Boeing 737 the primary narrow body in the fleet.  

Hainan's service has won the unanimous approval of a wide range of passengers and those in the civil aviation industry. In October 2014, Hainan Airlines won the 2014 annual World Travel Awards (WTA) "Asia's Best Business Class 2014" award. On January  27, 2015 Hainan Airlines was named as one of the 100 Most Valuable Chinese Brands selected by the internationally known brand consultancy and assessment agency “BrandZ”. Since 2011, Hainan Airlines, with its high quality service standards and continuous years of service innovation, has won four consecutive global SKYTRAX five-star airline ratings. Meanwhile, it has also won SKYTRAX “Best Airline in China” and “Best Staff Service in China” awards for the fifth time.

Hainan Airlines inherits “Oriental hospitality”, advocates a “respect for the customer” service spirit, follows the “SMILE” service standard, passes on the “cherished experience” brand philosophy, highlights the “Oriental Beauty” new international brand image, becoming a world-class aviation enterprise and brand for the Chinese nation.
