In March 1989 BinterCanarias began its operations in the Canary archipelago. At that time, the company's fleet consisted of four CN-235 aircraft.

The first flights were made between Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma and Fuerteventura, islands which were later joined by Lanzarote and El Hierro. After the inauguration of the La Gomera Airport (July 1999), BinterCanarias also opened a route with that island. In this first stage of the airline, the immediate objective was to guarantee a greater number of frequencies between the islands, while the company managers were already considering the implementation of procedures that would tend to streamline all operations.

BinterCanarias was born as a regional airline company, and in that sense it is the only one that currently operates in the eight airports of the Canary Islands.

Since 2005, it began an internationalization process that is currently reflected in its connections with Marrakech, El Aaiún and Madeira, plus Casablanca, Agadir, Cape Verde, Lisbon and Banjul.  In 2020 Binter added four new national destinations to its schedule, Santander, Vitoria, Jerez and Asturias.  In 2021 the airline started operations to France and Italy with regular flights to Toulouse, Marseille, Lille, Turin and Venice. The domestic schedule has also grown, with the incorporation of flights to Tarragona.
