3 June, 2019

TAP flew the first commercial transatlantic flight with the A321 Long Range. This was the first time a narrow-body aircraft, which are normally used on medium-haul flights, crossed the Atlantic as a commercial flight without any stop-overs, to land at an American airport. This historic flight for world aviation, TP213, was  on aircraft CS-TXA, Agostinho da Silva, which carried 128 passengers.

To mark this maiden flight, a special Quinta do Ventozelo wine was served in executive and economy classes and every passenger received a bottle of Dalva Port. Passengers in executive class were also given a bar of Castelbel soap, while economy class passengers received pillowcases with the emblem of this company famed for its luxury perfumed products.

Soon other North and South American destinations, such as Boston and Washington in North America and with Recife, Natal, Fortaleza and Salvador in Brazil will be served by the new models of this aircraft that offer the premium comfort of a long-haul aircraft. The aircraft also lets TAP exploit potential new markets in the northeast of Brazil, such as Maceió, or Montreal in North America, and increase the frequency of flights from Porto to New York and São Paulo, with TAP aiming to increase the number of flights between Porto and New York to once a day.
