Malev Airlines - New Mobile Check-In

image
4 December, 2011

From 1 December it is possible to check-in for Malév flights using a mobile phone. As a consequence of this latest development, Malév customers can now choose to use the most flexible check-in option, naturally alongside the existing three other methods i.e. desk, kiosk and online check-in. With the introduction of this latest service Malév provides its passengers with all the check-in options currently available within the industry. This new service is fully integrated into the series of developments that the airline has implemented during 2011, primarily in the area of enhancing online services: the introduction of the Smart Search travel planner and online ticket purchases for frequent flyer Bonus Points.

From the customer’s perspective the greatest advantage offered by mobile check-in is the flexible, simple and convenient check-in process, as well as the fact that by switching from paper-based boarding cards this method of check-in is fully environmentally friendly.

Mobile check-in requires a mobile phone capable of connecting to the Internet and the airline’s website, from where the check-in process is easy to arrange. After inputting name, ticket number or reservation code the user can select a seat and request the boarding card to be sent in an SMS or by e-mail. In both cases the passenger receives a barcoded boarding card that can be displayed on a phone screen. This virtual boarding card is then checked by staff at the airport control points (customs, passenger security) and when boarding the aircraft (for instance, at Budapest the barcode is read by a scanner).

Similarly to online check-in, mobile check-in is available 36 hours before the scheduled flight departure time. If a customer is travelling with baggage, this can be checked at the dedicated desk in exactly the same way as kiosk or online check-in.

Passengers can be asked to show their boarding cards even after embarking, so it is important to keep the virtual boarding card available on the mobile phone right up until boarding has been fully completed.

Parallel with the introduction of mobile check-in, Malév has also created a new option for its customers who can now request boarding cards to be sent in an SMS when they check-in online, too.
