After successfully completing the transformation process which started more than a year ago for the recovery of its operating profitability, this April Air Europa begins a new stage of expansion that is built on a notable increase in sales since the end of last year.  In the second half of the year the airline will exceed the number of available seats on its main routes from the Barajas hub and will continue to increase its offer with the incorporation of eleven new aircraft throughout this year with which it will be able to operate in its entire network of destinations to the Americas. This way, the summer season is faced under the best possible conditions around a fleet that will have been unified almost entirely around the most modern, efficient, and sustainable models on the market.

Air Europa will add five new Boeing 787 Dreamliners to its widebody units, four of them thanks to the lease agreement reached with Norse Atlantic Airways.  The Dreamliner consumes 20% less fuel than similar models on the market and provides one of the best flying experiences, especially in long-haul operations.

The long-haul fleet expansion will also be completed with an increase in its narrow-body fleet with six new Boeing 737 units, which will be added progressively over the coming months.  Its seat capacity will contribute to respond to the increase in the number of passengers whilst maintaining, likewise, the criteria of efficiency and reduction of emissions.  This year, the long-haul fleet will once again be the same as in 2019.

This expansion plan will reinforce Air Europa's strategic role in the Madrid-Barajas airport hub.  The activity from this location to historical routes of the company will reach the levels prior to the arrival of the pandemic, even improving the available offer and the number of passengers transported.  The seats offered for this second semester will exceed those of 2019 by 5%.  

The data corroborate a significant recovery in activity in recent months, especially in the long haul.  The increase in passenger demand has allowed the reactivation of routes from Barajas surpassing 2019 levels and again demonstrating the importance of the company in the air corridor between Europe and the Americas.  Throughout 2022, a total of 23 destinations will be reached in the American continent, to which another 33 are added in Spain and Europe.

Finally, the unification of the fleet allows not only to increase the number of seats per plane, but also to optimize the number of flights and increase the offer in both economy and business class.
